Does this
sound familiar?

You know your body best. If any of these feel familiar, you’re in the right place.

Pain during intimacy

A sharp, burning pain, or a “brick wall” feeling, during attempted intimacy or pelvic exams.

Muscle tightening

Involuntary, painful tightening or spasms around the vaginal opening.

Tampons feel impossible

Finding it impossible or very painful to use a tampon or have a Pap smear.

If you recognised yourself here,

you're in the right place,

and what you’re feeling has a name, a cause, and a path forward.

You're
not alone

Vaginismus is one of the most common causes of painful intimacy in women, and yet it is rarely spoken about. Many women carry it quietly for years, believing nothing can be done. That isn’t true. With gentle, structured clinical care, most women see real, meaningful change.

Understanding
Vaginismus

A gentle explanation of what’s happening inside your body.

What is it?

Vaginismus is when the muscles around the vaginal opening tighten involuntarily, making penetration painful or impossible, whether during intimacy, a gynaecological exam, or when using a tampon. It is a physical reflex, not something you are imagining or doing on purpose. And with the right gentle, clinical support, it is highly treatable.

Why it happens?

Vaginismus is a real, physical reflex: the pelvic floor muscles become hypertonic, overactive and stuck in a protective contraction, often without you realising it.

Why the usual advice falls short?

This is why being told to “just relax” or to use more lubricant rarely helps, your nervous system is guarding the area, and willpower can't switch that off. What does help is gentle, specialised clinical desensitisation that gradually retrains the reflex, so your body learns it is safe.
